Heading Out of the Country? Tell Us Before You Go

Do Not Lose Remote Access When You Travel

Medicine does not always pause when you travel. A colleague may need a second opinion. A lab result may need your review. You may want to take a telehealth call, check a chart, or approve a prescription renewal while you are away.

When you plan to work from outside Canada, even occasionally, a quick heads up to BlueBird iT before you leave protects your remote access and your ability to stay connected to your patients.

Why Advance Notice Matters

VPN access and cloud-based clinical systems behave differently when you log in from a new region. Connections from outside Canada can be flagged by security systems, blocked by geographic restrictions, or slowed by routing that was never optimized for your destination.

Picture this. You land in London, open your laptop, and try to pull up a patient chart before a telehealth call. Your login is blocked. Your VPN will not connect. It is 9am local time which means it is 4am in Toronto. Our after hours emergency support is available but response times may be slightly longer overnight and every minute counts when a patient is waiting.

That scenario is entirely preventable. It just requires a conversation before you board.

What Happens If You Do Not Tell Us

Without advance notice the most common remote access problems we see are:

  • Blocked VPN access from unrecognized regions
  • Multi-factor authentication failures when your phone is on a foreign carrier
  • EMR login attempts flagged as suspicious and locked out automatically
  • Cloud system timeouts caused by unoptimized international routing

None of these are difficult to prevent. All of them are frustrating to fix from a different time zone.

Setting Up Secure Remote Access Before You Travel

Please contact us at least five business days before you travel. That window gives our team enough time to:

  • Get any required approvals from a senior staff member or office manager before changes can be made
  • Adjust firewall and security rules so your login is not blocked in transit

What to Share When You Contact Us

The more detail you give us the faster we can prepare your remote access before you leave. When you get in touch please include:

  • Your destination country and city
  • Your travel dates including your return date
  • The device or devices you plan to use while abroad
