Cyber Security Awareness Month (Cyber Month) is an internationally recognized campaign held each October to help the public learn more about the importance of cyber security. This campaign helps Canadians stay secure online by teaching them simple steps to protect themselves and their devices. This year, BlueBird and the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security are focusing on ruining cyber criminals’ days by teaching Canadians how to fight back against phishing scams.
Phishing is a cyber criminal’s attempt to get sensitive information by pretending to be a legitimate sender like a bank or a government organization. Phishing is the fourth most common scam in Canada.
Cyber criminals spend their days trying to trick us into giving up our personal information, tamper with our devices and even steal our identities. When cyber attacks like phishing are successful, they can ruin our days, to put it lightly. That’s why, this Cyber Security Awareness Month, we’re encouraging Canadians to ruin a cyber criminal’s day.
This October, we can learn more about spotting phishing messages, and take simple steps to protect ourselves from phishing. Let’s help make phishing scams less appealing to criminals— and that just might ruin their day.
